Hallway Project: Moodboard...

Our hallway is the only part of our home that I'm not happy with. It's been really neglected over the years and it's about time now that we tackled that "project" (before the other, "bigger" house projects get in the way again).

Here's two moodboards I put together for that project.

I always wanted to have a gallery wall and the hallway offers the perfect spot for it.  For that we have already removed the big mirror that took over the wall on the left.  In a first "trial" we put up a some of our favorite photographs to get a feel for it. It's not finished yet and I inted to add more of my own "art" to this.

Instead of a "sideboard" which would take too much space in the small hallway, we opted for a shelf consisting of three cubicles which can be put together in various ways. Hopefully, we'll also find a small stool.

For the color scheme, I'd  like to pick up the turquoise color from the two columns and integrate it into the pieces I want to put on display.

No idea yet what we'll do with the wallpaper. It has to come off, no doubt. But we haven't decided on a new one or whether we should paint the wall in the same cream-colored tone that the rest of the flat is. We'll see. I think, I'll go wallpaper hunting over the next couple of weeks. There are so many amazing varieties now.

We'll see... to be continued on this blog :)

Cleaning out the closet and introducing Fantasy Me

The striped, brown-beige satin tunic top in front of me is the most hideous thing I’ve ever seen.
To add insult to injury, according to the price tag still attached to it, it cost 120 EUR. I mean, wtf ?!? Who on earth spends that kind of money on something they never wear? You’d have to be stark raving mad, blind or . . . well, me.

Take a look at this fashion disaster and meet Fantasy Me after the jump.

Wish I were there now...

Someone once said January is the Monday among the months. It sure feels like it right now. The weather over here is simply horrible.  Wet, cold, windy... make that stormy!

However, the worst isn‘t the wetness or the cold but the lack of light. Getting up when it‘s still pitch black outside, and having to work all day with the lights switched on is a drag. Not a single ray of sunshine, or a brief glimpse of blue sky.

Nothing but heavy clouds and grayness.

So I could really do with that cortado right now,  sitting in that little beach side cafĂ© and listening to the ocean waves rolling gently towards the shore.

Wish I were there with my baby...

Welcome 2012!

2012, here you are!

Looking back on your predecessor, it was a year that brought struggles and loss
not only for us, but also for many of our friends.

It helps to remind ourselves that dark times are part of life‘s journey
and that getting through them makes us stronger and lets us grow as a person.

Even in our darkest hours, there‘s a light waiting to reach us.

Sometimes that light is hope, faith in God or whatever we believe in.

Sometimes it is the support of friends who tell us they‘ll be there for us.

Sometimes it is the simple knowledge that there are people out there
who include us in their prayers and in their thoughts.

Above all however, it is the love surrounding us that heals the wounds and helps us moving on. Helps us remembering all the wonderful things that happened in 2011 and which have been overshadowed by the pain.

So, here we are, at the beginning of a new year.

I‘m an optimist at heart, and so I refuse to be afraid of what 2012 may bring.

I won‘t waste any thoughts or energy on wild end-of-the-world-predictions, economic crisis
or impending wars.

I‘m not afraid of hard times.

They make us treasure all the good times and the little things in life that bring us joy.

I embrace you, 2012!

As a chance for a fresh start.
As an opportunity to fulfill some of my goals and dreams.
As part of my life‘s story that hasn‘t been told yet.

I‘m looking forward to filling the empty pages with excitement, curiosity, passion and love.
