Crazy Heart - The Weary Kind

Ryan Bingham (from the soundtrack of Crazy Heart)

No matter how hard I try....

... I just can't resist the pull of a bookstore...

This is how my Saturday went so far :)

Starting off with a good cup of coffee...

followed by breakfast in our favorite coffee shop which happens to be
right next to a bookstore where I picked up this...

Awesome architecture in there and a real bargain this book.
(I have a big coffee table :)

Then later, when I had to go to the supermarket to get some salmon for lunch,  the lady at the cashier gave me this primrose for free. How nice. In fact, Frank and I noticed that everyone was in an exceptionally good mood today (from the lady at the carwash station, to the girls in the coffee shop and in the bookstore). Must be the sunshine. Everyone is in a much better mood just for that I think.
(BTW... that's not rain outside... uhm... just my dirty windows *sigh*)

And when I got home,  Frank had got me these :)
I just have the best hubby in the world :)

Men's Rules :)))

From one of my online-friends (from her blog).
THIS I just had to share here :)

The Man Rules
At last a guy has taken the time to write this all down

Finally , the guys' side of the story.
(
I must admit, it's pretty good.)
We always hear
" the rules"
From the female side ....

Now here are the rules from the male side.

These are our rules!
Please note... these are all numbered
"1 "

ON PURPOSE!

1.   Men are NOT mind readers.
(FIRST & FOREMOST RULE)

1. Learn to work the toilet seat.
You're a big girl. If it's up, put it down.
We need it up, you need it down.
You don't hear us complaining about you leaving it down.

1. Sunday sports, It's like the full moon
or the changing of the tides.
Let it be.

1. Crying is blackmail.

1. Ask for what you want.
Let us be clear on this one:
Subtle hints do not work!
Strong hints do not work!
Obvious hints do not work!
Just say it!

1. Yes and No are perfectly acceptable answers to almost every question.

1. Come to us with a problem
only if you want help solving it. That's what we do.
Sympathy is what your girlfriends are for.

1. Anything we said 6 months ago is inadmissible in an argument.
In fact, all comments become Null and void after 7 Days..

1. If you think you're fat, you probably are.
Don't ask us..

1. If something we said can be interpreted two ways and one of the ways makes you sad or angry, we meant the
  other one

1. You can either ask us to do something Or tell us how you want it done.
Not both.
If you already know best how to do it , just do it yourself.

1. Whenever possible, Please say whatever you have to say during commercials..

1. Christopher Columbus did NOT need directions and neither do we.

1. ALL men see in only 16 colours, like Windows default settings.
Peach, for example, is a fruit, not A colour. Pumpkin is also a fruit. We have no idea what mauve is.

1. If it itches, it
will be scratched. We do that.

1. If we ask what is wrong and you say "nothing," We will act like nothing's wrong..
We know you are lying, but it is just not worth the hassle..

1. If you ask a question you don't want an answer to, Expect an answer you don't want to hear.

1. When we have to go somewhere, absolutely anything you wear is fine... Really .

1. Don't ask us what we're thinking about unless you are prepared to discuss such topics as Football or Rugby .

1. You have enough clothes.

1. You have too many shoes.

1. I am in shape.
  Round IS a shape!

1. Thank you for reading this.
Yes, I know, I have to sleep on the couch tonight;

But did you know men really don't mind that? It's like camping.

Pass this to as many men as you can -
to give them a laugh.

Pass this to as many women as you can - to give them a bigger laugh

Full-Glass, Frosted, Frameless Interior Doors

Love the design of these glass doors by Casali!
Especially the "sliding doors".

Some of their most creative works are suspended from a simple rail and slide along the wall, thus adding to the elegant simplicity of opening and closing the door while also avoiding the problem of a hinged swinging motion that can take up space. These would work great in a simple, black and wide or otherwise basic modern room.

The full-glass panels employ beveled edges for safety but otherwise look almost like they are floating in space, edgeless and complete from top to bottom. Some are even curved – though of course you would have to build the opening to match.

Select specimens have areas of that are completely see-through while others are translucent from top to bottom or entirely opaque, with smooth black or colored finishes that make it hard to tell if they are even glass at first glance.

HAPPY WEEKEND :)

Olympics... "only" Silver for Plushy

Congrats for winning the silver medal!

Personally I think, Plushenko should have won gold. Not that this was the best he ever skated (he seemed tense and I missed the passion and spiritness that he usually gets across)  but he didn't make any major mistakes, had a technically very demanding programme - he was the only one that landed a quad safely -  and should have scored more than they gave him. Certainly more than the 1 point difference that cost him the Gold medal in the end.

As for Lysaczek, I don't know. I wasn't too thrilled. He skated without mistakes, I give him that, but he didn't risk much and I found his performance kind of boring. I think both the American and Canadian skaters were heavily over-rated, especially Patrick Chan. Not sure the new scoring system is such a good thing for this sport in the long run, if it means an "average" skater wins the gold medal *shrugs*)

For me, Takahashi was by far the most exciting skater in the group of the last six and he would have deserved gold even before Plushenko if he had landed his Quad safely. He's the most "complete" skater IMO, combining the technical, athletic aspect with  a great artistical performance. His was the best LP, how they scored him less than Lysaczek totally beats me?!?!

Still... considering what Zheny  achieved here after four years absence from competition, he can be really proud of himself. To come back and to end the Olympics with a silver medal, that's amazing!

I'll miss him, since I'm sure he will retire from amateurs again.
Thanks for giving it your all, Zhenya!

PS: watching this in the middle of the night suffering from fish poisoning didn't make this such an enjoyable experience either *sigh*

Olympics ... Plushenko leads after the SP :)

Yay!!! :)

The men's event gets underway in Vancouver with the short program. Yevgeny Plushenko leads after the short program but American Evan Lysacek and Japan's Daisuke Takahashi are hot on his heels in second and third.

(fingers crossed for Thursday!!!)

Olympics.... can't wait for HIM...

Call me mad, but I'll set the clock to wake me at 01.15h Wednesday morning just to watch this guy skate. I just can't wait to see if he pulls it off a second time and wins Olympic Gold again! I soooo hope he does.

Go you, Evgeni!

I love you, baby!

I love you not only for what you are,

Bedroom project... the rug disaster

Remember the rug I ordered for our bedroom?

It arrived yesterday. Excited, hubby and I rolled it out in the bedroom. The first thing I noticed was that the colors were less bright than presented on the internet. A second, closer look revealed there was a load of dust in it and lots of white fiber residuals.

Well.... it was a hand-woven rug (made in India w/o involving children‘s work, I may add!), so naturally there were some wool fluffs and fibers on the surface.

Anyway, nothing a round of vacuuming won‘t fix, we thougth!

We couldn‘t have been more wrong.

After almost an hour (!!!) of vacuuming the damn thing and two trips to the waste bin to empty the vacuum cleaner‘s dust container, it was still in the same „dusty/dirty“ condition. Giving off little clouds of fine dust whenever you patted it. It also smelled odd...

I had enough!

Sure, it was a wool rug and we expected some of this but the amount of brownish very fine dirt (it almost looked like mud), we hadn‘t expected. It really looked as if this rug contained half the sand from the shores of the Ganges. And from the look of it, a life-time of vacuuming wouldn‘t change that.

Besides, I said to myself, I did NOT want a rug in my bedroom that I would have to vacuum three times a day. So not.

So, this episode was closed. The rug will be returned.

Next week, I‘ll look for one in one of the local stores here. Goes to show, you can‘t always trust the pictures on the internet.

*still feeling itchy from the dust and all....*

*shudder*

Anti Theft Lunch Bags :)

How  to ward off your common "lunch thief" :)

Yes, a few spots of mold may work wonders to protect your precious sandwich when your custom labels, pleading requests and desperate detective work fail to find your regular at-work lunch thief.

Bedroom project...

I've set myself the goal to "finish" our "master bedroom" by the end of Februar.

I've finally found the perfect lamps and rug for it.
I've been searching for ages. I can't wait for them to be delivered :)

And  the best is, they came at a very reasonable price :)

Austin House...

I love absolutely everything about this family house in Austin.
Doesn't this look like the perfect house to raise children in?
